Joining the Choir

rehersal

Our choir is open to all, you DO NOT need any connection to the Hospitals or NHS. We hope you will enjoy singing with us and decide to become a member.

If your thinking about joining a choir, dont put it off! We are a friendly group and whether you're looking to join your first choir or you haven't sung for a long time don't worry - Nottingham Hospitals Choir encompasses a wide range of talents, abilities and experience.

Some members have been in choirs since leaving school, others join later because they realise they like singing; some read music, and others don't - we are a very mixed bunch

All that matters is that you can sing, that you are happy to rehearse consistently, and that you are prepared to join in three or four times a year for our public performances, all of which raise funds for very worthwhile causes.

We rehearse every Thursday evening in term time from 7pm to 9pm, in the Restaurant on D-Floor in the Queens Medical Centre.

We have a very experienced musical director who conducts and teaches us the music, and an expert accompanist who plays the piano.

You'll probably have an idea whether you are a soprano (highest), alto (high), tenor (high) or bass(low), i.e. which 'part' you sing, and you shall be encouraged and supported in finding your role within the choir.

We start each rehearsal with vocal warm-up exercises and these will give you a better feel for what voice 'part' you are.

A few weeks after you first start rehearsing with us, you will be invited to sing a well-known piece (eg the first verse of “ Hark the Herald Angels Sing”) within a small group of singers so that the musical director can make sure you are singing the best part for your voice. He may also do one or two of the warm up exercises with you (eg Bella Segnora) to check the range of your voice and to see how easily you can pick out the notes when more than one is played on the piano.

Once you are confirmed in your part you become a full member of the choir and come and sing with us every week.

Our Annual Subscription is £100 p/a

With this you will not only support the work of the choir and its chosen charaties but also recieve your Official Choir scarf/tie, music folder and be eligible for singing in our concerts.

We truly hope to see you at one of our rehearsals soon!
